CATOOSA COUNTY, Georgia - Monday, April 14,2008 - 8:15 am - Firefighters
with Catoosa County Fire/Rescue were dispatched with Hutcheson EMS Medics to
an accident with injuries on Catlett Road, just south of Temperance Hall
Road in southern Catoosa County. Before crews could arrive on the scene a
Catoosa County Sheriffs Officer reported there was entrapment and very
serious injuries.With the updated
information, Responding rescuers requested assistance from Walker State
Corrections Fire Department. Within minutes, Catoosa Rescue 1 and Hutcheson
EMS arrived on the scene. Crews quickly determined both drivers were trapped
in their vehicles. The first driver was a fairly fast extrication. Two
children in the same vehicle were also injured, but not trapped. Both of
those children were quickly and carefully packaged and loaded into an
ambulance.
The female driver of the second van was
more seriously trapped and would require more work to extricate. Crews
quickly started by cutting roof posts. To crews worked together with two
sets of hydraulic cutters. Within minutes the crews had the top of the van
cut lose and ready to fold out of the way. With the roof out of the way
emergency workers could quickly free the injured woman. She was loaded onto
a back board and moved to a stretcher. Rescuers immediately took the woman
to another ambulance.
The two children were transported to T. C.
Thompson's Children's Hospital and the two women, one serious and one
critical were rushed to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. The two mini
vans collided head on on a blind hill. The cause of the crash is under
investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
