Catoosa County Fire Crews Work Double Entrapment

CATOOSA COUNTY, Georgia - Monday, April 14,2008 - 8:15 am - Firefighters with Catoosa County Fire/Rescue were dispatched with Hutcheson EMS Medics to an accident with injuries on Catlett Road, just south of Temperance Hall Road in southern Catoosa County. Before crews could arrive on the scene a Catoosa County Sheriffs Officer reported there was entrapment and very serious injuries.

With the updated information, Responding rescuers requested assistance from Walker State Corrections Fire Department. Within minutes, Catoosa Rescue 1 and Hutcheson EMS arrived on the scene. Crews quickly determined both drivers were trapped in their vehicles. The first driver was a fairly fast extrication. Two children in the same vehicle were also injured, but not trapped. Both of those children were quickly and carefully packaged and loaded into an ambulance.

The female driver of the second van was more seriously trapped and would require more work to extricate. Crews quickly started by cutting roof posts. To crews worked together with two sets of hydraulic cutters. Within minutes the crews had the top of the van cut lose and ready to fold out of the way. With the roof out of the way emergency workers could quickly free the injured woman. She was loaded onto a back board and moved to a stretcher. Rescuers immediately took the woman to another ambulance.

The two children were transported to T. C. Thompson's Children's Hospital and the two women, one serious and one critical were rushed to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. The two mini vans collided head on on a blind hill. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
