HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn - Thursday, April 17,2008 - 1:00 pm - Highway 58
Volunteer Fire Department was alerted of a structure fire at 10388 Baker Boy
Drive In Hamilton County. Before the first Fire Engine could arrive on the
scene, one of their responding firefighters reported on the radio that there
was heavy black smoke visible from a distance away. Highway 58 Fire Chief
Dude Harris immediately requested Mutual Aid from the Tri-Community
Volunteer Fire Department.When the
first engine company arrived on the scene they confirmed a heavily involved
resident structure fire. That initial report also confirmed the fire had
already vented through the roof of the structure. Firefighters quickly
pulled an inch and 3/4 hose line and initiated a primary attack through the
front door of the structure. Unfortunately, crews were quickly face with a
partial collapse as well as the fact that the entire rear of the structure
was fully involved. The quick decision was made to pull everybody out of the
structure.
As the air horn of the engine blasted the
primary attack crew swiftly pulled the line back out of the structure.
Within seconds of clearing the door way an additional part of the roof
collapsed. Several additional incoming engine companies from Highway 58 and
the Tri-Community Fire Department brought numerous additional firefighters
to the scene. Firefighters were able to pull several more hose lines and
start an aggressive attack on the blaze.
Highway 58 Fire Departments Quint arrived
on the scene quickly and was put in service almost instantly, dumping
hundreds of gallons of water on the fire quickly. With the additional man
power and the use of the master streams, the fire was quickly brought under
control. The two fire departments worked very swiftly and in sequence while
battling the fire and due to their incredible efforts were able to save two
close houses on either side of this structure.
Nobody was home at the time of the fire.
Luckily, there were no reports of any injuries in connection with the blaze.
The exact cause of the fire is still under investigating by Hamilton
Counties Arson Investigator.
