ROSSVILLE, Georgia - Sunday, April 26,2009 - 1:15 pm - Walker county
Emergency Services dispatched several Engine companies to a reported
structure fire at 317 Autumn Avenue in the Rossville Community. When the
first company arrived on the scene they reported a working fire in a single
story residential structure. Crews also reported flames showing from the "D"
side of the home. Firefighters quickly pulled an inch and 3/4 hose line and
started a primary attack through the front door. Crews were immediately met
by heavy fire conditions inside. Command quickly pulled all the crews out
and decided to engage in a defensive attack.
With several additional fire crews arriving
on the scene, the fire attack was assisted with a water supply set up of a
tanker shuttle operation. Two additional hose lines were put in service with
additional manpower, crews were able to turn the table and start gaining a
knock down on the blaze. Unfortunately the fire was already well seated and
had consumed a large portion of the structure and it's contents.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in about an hour,
however the home is considered a total lose.
Witness said that a candle that was
burning in a downstairs bedroom was possibly the cause of the fire. Three
people were at home at the time the fire broke out, fortunately nobody was
injured as they escaped the fire. The American Red Cross was called to
assist the family. An exact estimate of damages has not yet been determined.
