CHATTANOOGA, Tenn - Monday, July 28,2008 - 6:00 am - City Of Chattanooga
Fire and Hamilton County EMS responded to an accident, involving a semi
truck on fire, on Interstate 24 Eastbound near Cummings Highway. When crews
arrived they reported the semi truck heavily involved with fire. Luckily the
truck driver was already free from the burning wreckage.
Firefighters quickly started attacking the
fire with large amounts of water. With no fire hydrants on the interstate,
fire units had to shuttle water from a hydrant on Cummings Highway to the
scene. Meanwhile, medics with Hamilton County EMS rushed the truck driver to
Erlanger Medical Center. The truck drivers injuries consisted of some rather
serious burns.
After about 45 minutes the fire was
completely extinguished. Several large wreckers from Doug Yates wrecker
service were called to the scene to clean up the wreckage and debris.
Another vehicle was also involved in the crash, however it was a broken down
car on the shoulder of the road and nobody was around it.
City of Chattanooga Police are
investigating the crash, but it is believed that a possible tire blowout on
the semi may have started the wreck.
