CHATTANOOGA, Tenn - Thursday, July 29,2010 - 6:50 am - City Of Chattanooga
Firefighters and Medics with Hamilton County EMS responded to a crash in the
2900 Block of Dodd's Avenue. In short order, rescuers were on the scene and
reported a two vehicle crash with serious injuries. One of the drivers was
also trapped inside the wreckage. Emergency crews immediately started
rendering aid to the injured patients.
While several rescue workers started
packaging and loading the driver of the Honda into a Hamilton County
Ambulance, other City of Chattanooga Firefighters started extricating the
driver of the overturned SUV. This was not an easy task for the firefighters
as they had to cut the top of the SUV apart to gain access to the trapped
and critically injured driver. Rescue workers had to be extremely careful
not to disturb the structural integrity while freeing the patient.
After a short time the driver of the SUV
was freed. That driver was loaded into an ambulance and rushed to Erlanger
Medical Center. The other driver was also rushed to Erlanger Medical Center.
Both patients were believed to be in critical but stable condition. City of
Chattanooga Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
