DADE COUNTY, Georgia - Sunday, August 29,2010 - 1:30am - North Dade County
Firefighters were alerted of a tractor trailer fire on Interstate 24
Westbound at the Wildwood Exit. Within minutes, the first North Dade Engine
was responding, however before they could arrive on the scene a secondary
report came in confirming the fire, but reporting it was only the Dog Dolly
of the second trailer on fire.
Luckily when the fire started, the truck driver quickly pulled over and
disconnected the rear trailer, he then quickly pulled forward and then also
disconnected the Dog Dolly from the rear of the front trailer. The driver
then pulled forward even more giving space between the fire and both
trailers. The quick thinking of the driver was most certainly an important
part of keeping the trailers from catching on fire.
North Dade Firefighters arrived on the
scene in short order and quickly gained a rapid knockdown on the fire.
Within minutes, the fire was out and crews were able to completely cool the
Dog Dolly down within 20 minutes. Traffic was affected for a very short
time, however due to the assistance of the Dade County Sheriffs Department
the backup was very short lived.
