CATOOSA COUNTY, Georgia - Thursday, August 6,2009 - 2:00 pm - Catoosa County
Firefighters were alerted of a possible house fire at 31 Martz Drive, on the
corner of Three Knotch Road. Within minutes, Catoosa Engine 6 arrived on the
scene and confirmed a two story residential structure with heavy fire and
smoke showing. Firefighters quickly started a primary attack on the fire
with an inch and 3/4 hose line. The fire was obviously traveling fast and
had a real good head start on the firefighters, however fire crews did not
let that slow them down.Several
additional companies arrived within minutes and joined in the aggressive
attack. Although flames were shooting out of the roof of the structure it
was absolutely apparent that the firefighters were quickly gaining the upper
hand. The arriving engine companies had established a water supply from a
nearby fire hydrant and several additional hose lines were pulled. Fire
crews were attacking the fire like stink on a wet dog. Within minutes the
flames were subsiding.
The residents were at home when the fire
broke out, however they had no idea the house was on fire until it had been
burning for a while. Luckily they did escape without injury. The cause of
the fire is still under investigation. Firefighters were able to stop the
fire before it consumed all of the families belongings. Unfortunately the
home was considered a total loss.
