OOLTEWAH, TENN – Wednesday, February 06, 2008 – Just after 8:00 AM today,
the Tri Community Volunteer Fire Department was alerted to a residential
structure fire at the intersection of Green Shanty Road and Sue Drive in
Ooltewah. As firefighters rushed to the scene, more calls came in indicating
flames showing.
Engine 1241 arrived on the scene to find a single wide mobile home heavily
involved in fire. The home was actually located at 7605 Achata Way, a
private road that runs off of Sue Drive. Firefighters pulled hand lines and
began attacking the fire immediately. As more apparatus and additional
firefighters arrived, they were able to enter the structure and mount an
interior attack but they were unable to save anything but parts of the
shell. The remainder of the building and its contents were totally
destroyed. Two inch and three quarter lines were deployed and a positive
water source was established from about 100 feet away. Deputy Chief Rogers
(1202) was command, Assistant Chief Thomason (1203) was safety and Battalion
Chief Wright (1207) was operations.
The fire is believed to have been accidental in nature but is under
investigation at this time. The homeowner was not present the fire broke out
but did return to the scene while firefighters were battling the fire. The
American Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance. The Hamilton County
Sheriff’s Department assisted with traffic. The following apparatus were at
the scene in addition to Engine 1241; Engine 1251, Engine 1243, Engine 1254,
Ladder 1271, Utility 1293.
