DADE COUNTY, Georgia - Tuesday, February 8,2011 - 1:30 pm - North Dade and
Trenton Firefighters responded with Lifeguard EMS to a reported crash with
injuries at the 17 mile marker on Highway 11. The first rescue unit to
arrive on the scene was a Lifeguard medic. They quickly reported two people
critically injured and one heavily entrapped. The Lifeguard unit also
immediately called for an air ambulance to transport the critically injured
patient that was entrapped.In short
order, several additional units arrived on the scene. Those crews were
Trenton and North Dade Firefighters. Firefighters quickly went to work
extricating the trapped patient. Meanwhile other rescuers were working on
the other patient, who was believed to have been ejected from the vehicle
during the crash. That patient was also in critical condition.
Rescuers loaded the first patient into a
Lifeguard ambulance and rushed him to Erlanger Medical Center by ground.
Within minutes, the air ambulance, Life Force landed on the scene. Crews had
to remove the roof of the vehicle and use the Jaws-of-Life to free the
second patient. In short order she was loaded on the air ambulance and flown
to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.
The exact cause of the crash is still
under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol. Dade County Sheriffs
Officers also assisted on the scene with traffic control and patient care.
