WALKER COUNTY, Georgia - Saturday, January 22,2011 - 7:25 pm - Several
Walker County Fire Stations were dispatched to a reported house fire on
James Street, just east of Wilson Road. Walker Engine 2 was first to arrive
on the scene reporting heavy involvement to a single story wood frame
structure. Firefighters on Engine 2 immediately pulled and inch and 3/4 hose
line and started a primary attack on the fire.
Engine two's crew quickly ran into difficulty
making entry through the front door of the structure due to debris pilled up
inside the house. Even with the obstacle firefighters were able to make an
aggressive knockdown on the blaze. With additional equipment and crews
arriving on the scene, firefighters gained the upper hand in short order,
bringing the fire under control rather quickly.
Fortunately nobody was in the structure at
the time of the fire and a neighbor said the house was vacant. The house was
apparently being used for storage. The exact cause is still under
investigation.
