HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn - Sunday, January 18,2009 - 1:45 am - Tri-Community
Volunteer Firefighters were alerted of a house fire at 1800 Pine Needles
Trail off of Igou Gap Road. The initial reports were flames coming out of
the side of the home. Within minutes, Tri-Community Engine 1245 arrived on
the scene and confirmed heavy involvement of a single story residential
structure. Upon arrival 1245 laid a driveway line from the road to the
structure and requested the next in company bring a supply hose from the
hydrant. Firefighters quickly pulled and inch and 3/4 hose line and started
a primary attack through the front door of the wood frame structure.
Within seconds it was evident that the
fire was moving quickly through the wooden structure, even with additional
crews arriving, firefighters had to back out of the structure and turn to a
defensive attack. Due to the intense heat from the fire load, a separate
building adjacent to the house quick ignited as well. Firefighters were
faced with battling two structure fires at the same time. Luckily the second
structure was rather small and crews could quickly gain control of it.
Several additional fire companies quickly
arrived on the scene, bringing numerous additional firefighters for
manpower. With these additional crews, Firefighters were able to put several
more hose lines and work an aggressive attack on the blaze. After about
thirty minutes of heavy fire attack on the out side of the structure
firefighters were finally showing the upper hand on the blaze. Luckily by
this point fire command had also confirmed nobody was in the house when the
fire broke out.
Nearly an hour later the fire was finally
brought under control. Crews spent several additional hours working overhaul
on the remains of the structures. In all the house, a detached building and
a car were totally destroyed by the raging blaze. Fortunately there were no
injuries as a result of the blaze. The cause of the fire is still under
investigation by officials.
