LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Tenn - Sunday, January 25,2009 - Just before 7:00 pm,
Firefighters with the Lookout Mountain Tennessee Fire Department were
alerted of a house fire on Averill Street. Almost immediately Lookout
Mountain Georgia Firefighters were also alerted for automatic aid. Within
seconds, several fire crews arrived on the scene and reported heavy
involvement to a two story residential structure. Firefighters quickly
pulled and inch and 3/4 hose line and started a primary attack.
Fire crews were able to establish a primary
water supply from a nearby fire hydrant. With water supply in place, Lookout
Mountain Firefighters quickly put their quint in service using the deck gun
on the top of their ladder. With fire well seated and quickly moving,
Command called for mutual aid from Walker County and Dade County Georgia.
This mutual aid call brought several additional pieces of equipment as well
as man power from several additional fire stations.
With additional firefighters and equipment
arriving on the scene, crews were able to deploy several more hose line and
quickly gain the upper hand on the blaze. The mass of the fire was knocked
down in short order, however crews worked for some time to completely
extinguish the hot spots. Luckily, due to the fast work of the fire crews
the majority of the down stairs of the home only sustained water damage.
Their were no reported injuries in
connection with the fire. The residents were said to have been at home at
the time, however they did escape without injury. The cause of the fire is
still under investigation.
