HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn - Sunday, February 8,2009 - Just after midnight to
SUV's collided head on, on the "W" Road about half way down the mountain.
One of the SUV's flipped over trapping the driver inside. The other SUV
caught fire. Luckily the driver of the SUV that caught fire was freed
quickly before the vehicle could become fully involved in flames.
Unfortunately the other driver of the other SUV was critically injured and
severely trapped inside the wreckage.
Walden's Ridge Firefighters and medics with
Hamilton County EMS were dispatched to the scene. Within moments, crews
arrived on the scene and set up command. In short order fire crews quickly
called for mutual aid assistance from the Red Bank Fire Department to help
extricate the trapped driver. Firefighters worked aggressively to free the
driver, however the vehicle was seriously mangled and operations were
hampered by the fact that it was overturned.
The driver was trapped for almost an hour
when crews were finally able to free him. The man was quickly loaded into an
ambulance an rushed to Erlanger Medical Centers trauma unit. Unfortunately
the man passed away for his injuries in the hospital the next day.
