Catoosa Firefighters Work A fully Involved Fire

CATOOSA COUNTY, GA – Saturday, June 28, 2008 – At about 8:45 AM, Catoosa County Firefighters responded to a reported residential house fire at 205 Dalyrimple Road in the southern part of the county. Engine 13, Engine 6, Tanker 11 and the Walker County Prison Fire Department responded. Firefighters reported seeing a large column of black smoke from as far away as eleven miles.

As firefighters arrived they realized that their closest water source was a hydrant at Colbert Hollow Road and Highway 151 which was over a half mile from the fire scene so they were forced to run a water shuttle using Tanker 11 and the tanker from Walker State Prison. Further complicating matters was the fact that the roadway leading to the house was narrow, had a lot of curves and was very steep. Engine 13, the first engine in, was forced to parked on a major incline making water supply and pressure a major issue.

The house was fully involved on their arrival and parts had already collapsed. Firefighters pulled several lines and began a defensive effort that lasted almost three hours. Firefighters also had to battle soaring temperatures making matters worse.

The family was not at home when the fire broke out. The homeowner reported that he left at approximately 8:00 AM. The homeowners returned while the house was still burning. They were concerned that their small dog was lost in the fire but it was found some time later in the woods and was unharmed. The value of the house is approximately $350,000 and it was a total loss. The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.

Hutcheson EMS was on the scene for standby but there were no injuries reported.
