CHATTANOOGA, Tenn - Tuesday, July 21, 2009 - 9:10 am - Chattanooga police and firefighters responded to a 911 call that a passenger car was underneath the trailer of an 18-wheeler. The accident happened just before the Chickamauga Creek overpass in the southbound lanes of I-75, 1/4 mile from the I-24 split.

According to witnesses, the passenger car, traveling southbound, was speeding in and out of traffic across multiple lanes when it's driver apparently misjudged the distance between the car and a tractor trailer. The car ran under the rig's trailer and was crushed by the wheels, killing the car's passenger.

The driver of the car was taken to Erlanger Hospital's emergency room via Hamilton County EMS with serious injuries. The driver of the 18-wheeler was shaken but not injured.
Investigators with the Chattanooga Police Department Traffic Division confirmed the fatality.
