CHATTANOOGA, Tenn - Sunday, July 26,2009 - 9:00 pm - According to witnesses,
The Tennessee Highway Patrol was involved in a high speed chase with the
driver of a Chevy S-10 Pickup truck on Interstate 75. The S-10 exited the
interstate onto Shallowford Road headed Eastbound. Witnesses stated the S-10
was driving at a high rate of speed and passing cars unsafely. Tennessee
Highway Patrol Officers were right behind the vehicle as it blew through the
intersection of Gunbarrel Road. After blasting through that intersection the
S-10 continued to pass cars.
Shallowford Road quickly narrows after crossing Gunbarrel and that's where
things when bad. Witnesses think the S-10 was attempting to pass another car
when it went out of control and struck a tree head on. The S-10 was
horrifically smashed into the tree and instantly burst into flames. The
trapped driver was believed to have been killed on impact.
Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating
the crash and has not yet released any information as to the reason for the
high speed chase or the identity of the driver.
