CHATTANOOGA, Tenn - Saturday, June 12,2010 - 1:20 am - A county sheriffs
officer was seconds behind a very serious crash that occurred on Highway 27
Southbound on the Main Street overpass. The sheriff's officer quickly
radioed in the crash to City Of Chattanooga Dispatch. Within minutes several
City of Chattanooga Fire units and Hamilton County EMS units were responding
to the scene.When emergency
personnel arrived on the scene they reported three people with critical
injuries. Crews quickly worked to load the patients into Hamilton County
Ambulances, one of the patients had to be extricate by City of Chattanooga
Firefighters. All three patients were rushed to Erlanger Medical Center,
their injuries were all believed to be life threatening.
Witnesses at the scene said the people in
the car had just left the annual Riverbend Festival in downtown Chattanooga.
Witnesses also said the vehicle was traveling southbound around a curve when
the vehicle went out of control and struck the concrete bridge retainer head
on. The small vehicle then spun to a rest backward in the middle of the
southbound lanes. City of Chattanooga Police Departments Traffic Division
units are investigating the crash.
