JACKSON COUNTY, Al - Sunday, June 27,2010 - 11:30 am - Higdon Alabama Fire
Department was dispatched with local EMS units to an accident on Highway 71,
in front of the North Sand Mountain High School, in Jackson County Alabama,.
The crash involved a Dade County Georgia sheriff’s officer who was trapped
in his patrol car. When Higdon fire department arrived on scene they advised
that the officer was indeed trapped and they needed to start extrication to
free him from the wreckage. Life-force helicopter and lifeguard ambulance
were dispatched to the scene. Higdon Fire Department worked quickly to
extricate the officer. Witness said
the Dade County sheriffs officer was struck in the side by a car that pulled
off a side street. The Dade County sheriffs officer did not have his lights
and sirens on and was not responding to a call. There was two patients in
the car that hit the officer and they were transported by Jackson county
ambulance to the hospital. After Higdon fire department extricated the Dade
county sheriffs officer he was flown to Erlanger by life-force helicopter.
Trenton police department and Dade county sheriffs officers were also on
scene to assist. Alabama State Patrol were called to the scene to
investigate the crash. The road was closed for over an hour.
