CHATTANOOGA, Tenn - Sunday, May 23,2010 - 5:30 pm - Several City of
Chattanooga Fire Units were dispatched to the 3000 block of Broad Street on
a reported train crash. When units arrived in the area they quickly reported
a train had derailed off the tracks. Crews quickly started investigating the
scene and checking for hazardous materials. Meanwhile, City of Chattanooga
Police shut down several streets in the area as a precaution, including the
bridge on Broad Street that goes over the tracks.
Within an hour the area was deemed safe and
the streets were reopened. Unfortunately this is the second derailed train
in the same stretch of tracks that has occurred in the last couple months.
Officials are said to be investigating the situation and should be able to
determine a cause. No injuries were reported as a result of this crash.
