CHATTANOOGA, Tenn - Sunday, June 1,2008 - 8:45 am - A semi tractor trailer
traveling westbound in the Ridge Cut on Interstate 24 went out of control
and crashed, leaving the trailer on it’s side and the tractor torn almost
entirely in half. The driver of the semi truck, luckily escaped the crash
without injury. However, the wreckage caused a major Sunday morning backup.
City of Chattanooga Firefighters responded to the scene to contain the
diesel fuel that was leaking from the wreckage.
City of Chattanooga Police and TDOT Help trucks worked to keep traffic
flowing in two westbound lanes while crews with Doug Yates Wrecker Service
worked to upright the trailer and clear the wreckage. The large wreckers
where able to completely clear the wreckage without blocking any additional
lanes of travel. The interstate was completely restored within 2 hours.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by the City of Chattanooga
Police. Heavy rain moving through the area may have been a contributing
factor.
