CHATTANOOGA, Tenn - Sunday, June 1,2008 - 11:00 am - An older couple headed
north through Chattanooga, on their way home in Canada, lost control of
their vehicle and crashed in the 75/24 split. Witnesses at the scene said
the car was in the wrong lane as it approached the interchange. At the last
minute they tried to change lanes, going out of control, leaving the roadway
and crashing. The couple was trapped by the wreckage.
City of Chattanooga Firefighters and medics with Hamilton County EMS were
dispatched to the scene. Crews arrived in short order and quickly started
extricating the couple. Rescuers quickly realized the passenger had been
fatally injured in the crash. The driver was extricated within minutes and
rushed by medics to Erlanger Medical Center in critical condition.
