Chattanooga Firefighters
Extricate One From A Main Street Crash

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn - Monday, May 12,2008 - 6:30 pm - City of Chattanooga
Firefighters and medics with Hamilton County EMS were called to an accident
in the 2500 block of East Main Street. When crews arrived on the scene they
reported two patients both still inside the vehicle. Within seconds rescuers
reported one of the patients were trapped and requested extrication to the
scene. Meanwhile, medics with Hamilton County EMS arrived on the scene and
started treating both patients for their injuries.
Chattanooga Squad 3 and Squad 1 both arrived on the scene fairly quickly and
crews went to work extricating the victims. With in minutes, crews loaded
the passenger on a stretcher and mover her to an ambulance. Rescuers had to
work a little harder to free the driver. After a short time, the driver was
also freed and loaded into another ambulance. Both patients were rushed to
Erlanger Medical Center. The driver of the vehicle was believed to be in
critical condition. |
Witnesses at the scene said the
van was traveling west on Main Street. Witnesses said as the van came around a
sharp curve, when it plowed over and embankment. The van then smashed through
two fences and crash head on into the ground as it was coming off the
embankment. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the City Of
Chattanooga Police.
