DADE COUNTY, Georgia - Saturday, June 13,2009 - 4:00 pm - South Dade
Firefighters and medics with Life Guard EMS were dispatched to an accident
with injuries on Interstate 59 Northbound near the 3mile marker. Within
minutes the first rescue unit was on the scene, that unit reported a single
vehicle crash with the driver critically injured. Several additional units
arrived on the scene with in seconds and quickly started assisting.
Due to the extremely critical nature of the
mans injuries, rescuers almost immediately called for a Life Force air
ambulance, from Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga Tennessee. Meanwhile,
Medics with Life Guard EMS were doing all they could to stabilize the mans
condition. fortunately their hard work was paying off almost immediately.
Although the man was in critical condition, he was stable enough to fly.
Crews quickly loaded him on the air ambulance.
The man was flown to Erlanger's Trauma
unit in Chattanooga and several days later transported to a hospital near
Birmingham. The man is expected to recover. The man was traveling south on
Interstate 59 when he crossed the median, rolling and landed on the
Northbound side. The driver, the man that was injured was ejected from the
vehicle while it was rolling, landing in the road. Georgia State Patrol
Officers are investigating the crash. The driver of the pickup truck is a
Birmingham, Alabama firefighter.
