FORT OGLETHORPE, Georgia - Wednesday, June 3,2009 - 9:45 pm - Fort
Oglethorpe Firefighters were alerted of a possible outside trash fire on
Stuart Road. Seconds later tones were resounded for a structure fire at 131
Stuart Road. When the first unit arrived on the scene they confirmed a
working structure fire. Neighbors informed the firefighters that someone was
possibly still in the house. The first arriving engine immediately started
on an interior attack with an inch an 3/4 hose line. Meanwhile additional
units were arriving on the scene, setting up command and a water supply.
Within minutes, command called for additional
assistance to the scene from East Ridge, Catoosa County and Walker State
Prison. Several additional Fort Oglethorpe fire crews were also arriving on
the scene. Crews quickly pulled several additional lines and joined in the
aggressive fire attack. The fire had a hearty head start on the fire crews
and was traveling through the attic area of the structure. Firefighters
worked diligently to chase the fire down.
With the additional mutual aid units and
manpower arriving on the scene, the firefighters were able to finally make a
stand against the raging beast. After nearly an hour and a half the fire was
finally under control. Unfortunately the house had sustained very heavy
damage as a result of the fire. Luckily nobody was injured in the blaze and
the home owner arrived back home shortly after the fire was brought under
control. He was uninjured but rather upset and overtaken by his loss.
Medics with Angel EMS stood by at the
scene for safety. Angel medics also comforted and assisted the homeowner
after he arrived on the scene. The cause of the fire is still under
investigation and a dollar amount of the loss has not yet been determined.
Fort Oglethorpe Police officers also assisted at the scene with traffic
control.
