TRENTON, Georgia - Tuesday, April 19,2011 - 5:00 pm - Trenton and New Salem
Firefighters along with medics from Life Guard EMS were called to a head on
collision on Highway 136 near the Dade County High School. Emergency crews
were on the scene in short order and quickly started first aid on the three
patients, One in the yellow Ford Mustang and two in the red pickup truck.
The one person in the Mustang was the driver,
Austin Conner. Conner was in critical condition and had to be extricated by
Trenton firefighters. Fire crews used the "Jaws of Life" to free him. Medics
called for an air ambulance to fly him to Erlanger's Trauma unit in
Chattanooga. A life Force air ambulance was landed in the ball field of the
High School and rescuers quickly transported the critically injured teen
from the wreck scene to the helicopter.
The two other patients were in the red
pickup truck, driver Amanda Walraven and her passenger Kenneth Hicks. Both
of them were transported by Life Guard EMS to Erlanger Hospital. Ms Walraven
was treated and released from Erlanger. Mr Hicks was said to have serious,
but non life threatening injuries.
Highway 136 was shut down to traffic for
over an hour due to the crash. Georgia State Patrol officers are
investigating the scene.
