CHATTANOOGA, Tenn - Wednesday, March 30,2011 - 1:50 pm - Several 9-1-1 calls
reported a semi tractor trailer had crashed and rolled over on Interstate 24
Westbound on the Dodd's Avenue overpass coming out of the Ridge Cut. A Life
Guard Ambulance that was traveling westbound was right behind the crash as
it happen. Medics quickly called the incident in on the radio and reported
all lanes westbound affected. Within seconds the medics had made contact
with the driver of the semi and reported he was injured and possibly
entrapped.In short order, City of
Chattanooga Firefighters and Medics with Hamilton County EMS were on the
scene. Crews were able to free the driver very quickly. He was loaded into a
Hamilton County ambulance and taken to a nearby hospital with what was
believed to be minor injuries. Meanwhile City of Chattanooga Police
requested a large recovery wrecker to the scene to upright the wreckage and
remove it from the interstate.
It took several hours to clear the
wreckage, causing a massive backup in traffic. City of Chattanooga Police
are investigating the cause of the crash.
