DADE COUNTY, Georgia - Saturday, April 4,2009 - 1:30 pm - A motorcyclist was
critically injured in a crash on New Home Road at the intersection of
Scratch Ankle Road after the motorcycle her was riding collided with a
pickup truck, left the roadway traveling off an embankment and colliding
with a tree. New Home Firefighters, Davis Firefighters and medics with
Lifeguard EMS were immediately dispatched to the scene. Within minutes the
first rescuer was on the scene and reported the motorcyclist was critical.
That rescuer requested a Life Force air ambulance from Erlanger's Trauma
Center.Moments later, a Lifeguard
medic unit arrived on the scene along with several additional rescuers from
New Home and Davis Fire Departments. Crews quickly went to work assessing
the motorcyclists injuries and initiating treatment. Meanwhile, additional
firefighters with the New Home Fire Department started setting up a
temporary landing zone in a field near he crash scene. In short order the
air ambulance was on the ground and the medic unit had moved the patient to
the temporary "LZ".
A number of rescuers worked with the
Lifeguard medics and the flight medics on the patient, in the back of the
ambulance, before he was stable enough to be moved to the air ambulance.
After a short period of time crews loaded him on the helicopter and he was
flown to Erlanger Medical Center. The driver of the pickup truck was not
injured in the crash. The cause of the crash is still under investigation by
the Georgia State Patrol.
