DADE COUNTY, Georgia - Saturday, May 7,2011 - 2:45 am - North Dade and
Trenton Firefighters rushed to the scene of a reported tractor trailer fire
on Interstate 59 Northbound near the 18 Mile Marker. When crews arrived on
the scene they reported the semi tractor fully involved. Crews quickly
pulled two inch and 3/4 hose lines and started knocking the fire down. After
a short battle with the fire in the tractor, firefighters realized the fire
had extended into the trailer. Firefighters quickly gained access into the
trailer from the rear doors and made their way over the freight load to the
front of the trailer. Within seconds crews had that fire knocked out as
well. Interstate 59 Northbound was shut down for a short time due to the
size and nature of the fire. The exact cause is still under investigation.
