DADE COUNTY, Georgia - Wednesday, November 16,2011 - 4:00 pm - Rescue crews
with North Dade County and Trenton Fire Departments responded with Life
Guard EMS to an accident with injuries on Interstate 59 near the 17 Mile
Marker. Within seconds of the call the first Dade County unit was on the
scene and reported a vehicle had collided with a tree in the median head on
seriously injuring two people. In short order several additional units
arrived on the scene and started assisting with treating the injured.
Meanwhile the car's severely damage engine compartment had started on fire.
Luckily Officer Hughes with the Dade County Sheriffs Department quickly
reacted with a fire extinguisher, possibly saving the victims and rescuers
from more serious injuries.
Emergency crews worked swiftly to load both patients into ambulances. They
were both rushed to Erlanger Medical Center in serious condition by Life
Guard Medics. The exact cause of the crash is under investigation by the
Georgia State Patrol. The cars was said to have been traveling northbound on
Interstate 59 when it left the roadway and collided head on with a tree,
spinning several times the car landed in the middle of the median. The
driver of the car was said to be uninjured. However the two passengers were
reportedly stable at the hospital.
