Highway 58 firefighters rushed to the scene to aid the injured along with Hamilton County EMS medics.

The crash was reported to 911 at 6:47 p.m. moments after the young woman, Rhonda L. Morgan, 23, pictured at the left, of an Ooltewah address, pulled her 2000 Honda passenger car onto Highway 58 and into the path of a pickup that slammed into the driver's side of her small car. Ms. Morgan was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pickup involved was a 2001 Chevrolet driven by Vernon Norwood, 67 of Illinois. He was traveling north on Highway 58.

Norwood was transported to Erlanger Hospital by Hamilton County EMS with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

Hamilton County Sheriff's Office traffic investigators were called to scene to begin their reconstruction of the crash.
