CHATTANOOGA, Tenn - Friday, November 6,2009 - 7:30 am - Several 9-1-1
callers reported a semi overturned on Interstate 75 Southbound on the
interchange ramp to Interstate 24. Several City of Chattanooga Fire units
and Hamilton County Ambulances were quickly dispatched to the scene. Within
minutes, the first unit arrived and reported a tractor trailer on it's side
with the driver trapped inside.
Crews quickly started working to free the driver, meanwhile additional fire
units were called due to the fact that the truck was believed to be hauling
some hazardous chemicals. Hazmat units arrived in short order and started
preparing to unload the hazardous materials. Shortly there after several
large wreckers from Doug Yates Wrecker Service were allowed to start the
clean up process.
Traffic was allowed to flow in one lane
while crews worked the scene, however traffic was fully restored rather
quickly after Doug Yates Wrecker Service rapidly up righted and moved the
wreckage. The exact cause of the crash is unknown, however it was believed
that the driver may have had a medical condition that may have contributed.
