Firefighters were called to a reported truck fire on Interstate 24 Eastbound
at the 171 Mile Marker. When the first unit arrived on the scene they
reported a semi tractor trailer heavily involved with fire. Firefighters
quickly started a primary attack on the blaze. Meanwhile incoming fire units
established a water supply by using a tanker shuttle.
Firefighters battled the fire for over an
hour before getting a knock down. Unfortunately the fire did totally destroy
the tractor trailer. The fire burned so hot that most of the aluminum
trailer sides melted down onto the highway. Fire crews cooled hot spots for
several hours before allowing a wrecker crew to start clearing the debris.
Traffic on Interstate 24 Eastbound was
shut down while firefighters battled the blaze. The exact cause of the fire
is still under investigation.
