MARION COUNTY, Tenn - Monday, October 24,2011 - 6:25 pm - North Dade County,
Trenton, Hale Town, and Jasper Fire Departments were all dispatched to a
reported semi tractor trailer on fire on Interstate 24 Eastbound near the
Tennessee/Georgia State Line. Multiple callers reported several explosions
and conflicting reports put the fire in Tennessee and in Georgia. Within
minutes, several firefighters were on the scene and confirmed the semi fire
was in Tennessee, however just barley still in Tennessee y a few yards.
Hale Town Fire crews and Jasper Fire crews
continued their response as well as the North Dade Fire Crews to assist
their neighboring departments. Moments from the fire infringing into the
trailer, the first Hale Town engine arrived on the scene. Firefighters
quickly worked to pull several hand lines off the engine and start a knock
down on the blaze. Crews immediately started one attack from the rear of the
tractor and front of the trailer to stop the fire from getting into the
trailer.
In short order the fire crews were able to
catch an aggressive knock down on the blaze and bring the fire under
control. Unfortunately, the tractor was completely destroyed by the fire. An
exact cause is still under investigation. Traffic on Intestate 24 Eastbound
had to be completely shut down for a time due to the fire. There were no
reports of any injuries as a result of the fire.
