CHATTANOOGA, Tenn - Thursday, September 22,2011 - 8:45 pm - City of
Chattanooga Fire Department was alerted of a possible structure fire in the
700 block of east 11th Street. Within seconds, one of the responding units
reported heavy smoke and fire showing from several blocks away. Moments
later the first engine company arrived on the scene and reported a fully
involved commercial structure with flames shooting through the roof.
Fire crews quickly established nobody was
inside the structure and set up a defensive attack on the blaze. Several
additional companies where arriving on the scene and quickly joined in on
the large scale fire suppression efforts. Crews set up several aerial
ladders and several large hand lines to attack the blaze. Water supply was
never an issue and was quickly established from several nearby fire
hydrants.
The building that was on fire was the old
farmers market building and was scheduled for demolition in the near future.
Witnesses did say they seen a man leave the building just moments before the
fire started, however investigator have said if he was connected to the
cause. It took fire crews about 2 hours to bring the fire under
control. No injuries were reported.
