DADE COUNTY, Georgia - Saturday, October 9,2010 - 1:30 am - South Dade
County Firefighters and Trenton Firefighters were dispatched to a
residential structure fire at 1465 Highway 11 South, near Rising Fawn.
Before the first fire unit arrived on the scene, a Dade County Sheriffs
Officer arrived and reported the structure was fully involved. Shortly after
the first South Dade Engine arrived on the scene and set up Highway 11
command.Firefighters quickly
established a water supply from a fire hydrant next to the neighbors
driveway. Meanwhile other firefighters pulled two hose lines and started a
defensive attack on the fire. By the time firefighters arrived on the scene
the roof had already collapsed, therefore there was no change of engaging in
an interior attack on the blaze.
There was a small addition on the back of
the home that had not collapsed, but was heavily involved. When the first
Trenton Fire Crew arrived on the scene they quickly pulled a hose line to
the rear of the structure and started an attack on that still standing
addition. Firefighters made an aggressive move when they tried to start an
interior attack on the addition. Unfortunately the fire was extremely hot
and had already consumed the contents of that area as well.
Firefighters quickly backed out of the
addition as fire started breaking through the roof and walls. Crews quickly
returned to a defensive attack and eventually knocked the blaze down after
about an hour. The home was a total loss as well as all the contents.
Luckily the residents did escape the fire without injury. The exact cause is
still under investigation.
Medics with Life Guard EMS and Dade County
Sheriffs Officers also assisted on the scene.
