DADE COUNTY, Georgia - Saturday, October 18,2008 - 10:30 am - Dade County
Firefighters with West Brow, New Salem, Trenton and South Dade Fire
Departments were alerted of a reported shop fire on North Sunset Drive off
of Highway 136. New Salem Fire units arrived on the scene first and reported
a garage fully involved.The garage
had already collapsed and most of the structure was already destroyed by the
fire when crews arrived. Firefighters did quickly knock the rest of the
blaze down and keep it from causing damage to nearby homes. Witnesses said
the garage went up extremely fast leaving little time for any attempt at
saving it.
Additional crews arrived on the scene
quickly and assisted with putting the fire out and overhaul. The exact cause
of the fire is under investigation. Several reports of explosions were
called in during the initial reports, but those were believed to be small
bursts caused by materials inside the garage.
