MARION COUNTY, Tenn - Sunday, April 18,2010 - 9:30 pm - Haletown Fire
Department was alerted of fully involved residential structure fire on
highway 41 near the Catfish House. Haletown firefighters immediately started
responding to the call. Within minutes several firefighters arrived on the
first engine and reported the single story residential structure was fully
involved. They also reported nobody was in the structure.
Witnesses at the scene stated the house was
vacant. Witnesses said the house had already caught fire several months
earlier and the fire department had gotten a quick knockdown on it. Most of
the house had been saved that time, other than heat and smoke damage.
Witnesses stated that the homeowner was intending on restoring the home
until now. Luckily nobody was injured in the fire, however the house was
totally destroyed this time.
Firefighters worked quickly to protect
another structure nearby. The flames and intense heat were almost more than
anyone could stand even in full turnout gear. Crews had to keep wetting down
the fire engines to keep them from melting. Crews worked aggressively to
contain the blaze even though they knew there was no way to save the house
which was already an inferno. The fire was finally extinguished several
hours later mostly due to the fact it was completely burned up. The exact
cause of the fire is under investigation.
