DADE COUNTY, Georgia - Saturday, April 24,2010 - 9:00 pm - Units with North
Dade Fire Department and Trenton Fire Department were dispatched with medics
from Lifeguard EMS to motor vehicle accident with injuries on Highway 11
North near the 22 Mile Marker. Within minutes, North Dade Fire units were on
the scene, setting up command and reporting two vehicles involved with both
drivers in critical condition. Command also reported one of the drivers was
entrapped in his pickup truck.
Firefighters and medics immediately started working with both patients,
while firefighters started setting up to extricate the man from the pickup
truck. Rescuers had immediate access to the driver of the small SUV, and
rapidly took advantage of it. Crews quickly loaded that patient unto a
stretcher and moved her to an ambulance. That driver was extremely critical
and needed to be transported fast. Meanwhile, fire crews were freeing the
second driver from the wrecked pickup.
Within seconds of the rescuers freeing the
second driver a second medics unit arrived on the scene. Crews loaded that
patient into the second ambulance quickly. Both patients were transported to
Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. The cause of the crash is still
under investigation, however wet roads may have contributed to the cause.
