MARION COUNTY, Tenn - Sunday, March 21,2010 - 6:30pm - The Hale Town Fire
Department, Kimball Fire Department and Medics with a local service were
dispatched to a crash with entrapment in the 1800 block of Highway 41, near
the Hamilton County Line. The dispatcher reported that there was a Doctor
and Nurse on the scene. The dispatcher also reported the vehicle was
unstable and could fall at any time. Several Hale Town and Kimball units
were responding within seconds. Within minutes, the first unit was on the
scene and reported a pickup truck on its side in an unstable situation.
The pickup truck had left the roadway, crashed through a creek and landed on
it’s side on some large rocks. The pickup truck was teetering and ready to
flip on over, If it did the drivers compartment would have landed upside
down in several feet of water. The circumstances were extremely serious, and
firefighters quickly went to work to save the driver. Firefighter stabilized
the truck with cribbing and ropes wasting no time for fear of the man being
more seriously injured if the truck had flipped.
After stabilizing the vehicle crews went to work extricating the injured
driver. Rescuers had to cut the wind shield out of the truck and then cut
the roof and roll it to access the patient. Luckily his injuries were not
believed to be life threatening. Crews freed the man in short order and
loaded him into an ambulance. He was taken to a nearby hospital. The exact
cause of the crash is under investigation by the Tennessee Highway Patrol,
but wet roads from the rain may have been a contributing factor.
