DADE COUNTY, Georgia - Friday, April 2,2010 - Forestry units from North
Georgia worked in conjunction with firefighters from New Home, Davis and
Crews with North Alabama Forestry to battle a wild fire that spread very
fast. The fire consumed over 600 acres on Sand Mountain, Located on the
Georgia/Alabama State Line. It took crews two days to control the blaze and
numerous resources were called to assist.
Forestry units set back burns numerous time
in an attempt to contain the blaze, however the fire was so big and hot it
continually jumped large breaks and back burns. One factor that did assist
with finally bringing the fire under control was the change in Humidity in
the air. The actual cause of the blaze is still under investigation by
forestry officials.
