DADE COUNTY, Georgia - Sunday, April 18, 2010 - 1:00pm - A pedestrian
entered the Trenton Fire Station and advised that there was a house on fire
on Montague Street. Fortunately, there was a training class being conducted
at Trenton's Fire Station, meaning there were several Dade County Fire Crews
on hand. Several Firefighters immediately started responding to the area in
Trenton Engine 16. Meanwhile, other Firefighters reported the still alarm to
the 9-1-1 communication center. Communications quickly dispatched a full
assignment from Trenton and South Dade Fire Departments.
Trenton's Fire Station is only blocks from
Montague Street, so Trenton Engine 16 arrived within seconds of the
dispatch. Several Trenton and South Dade Fire Units were also quickly
responding. Meanwhile, Engine 16 confirmed heavy involvement and advised
they were starting a primary attack on the fire. Within seconds Trenton
Engine 10 and South Dade Engine 51 arrived on scene and joined in the fire
attack. Firefighters pulled several hose lines and quickly started gaining a
knock down on the flames that were shooting from of the single story home.
Neighbors said nobody lived in the house,
however they also said somebody had just moved out. Luckily nobody was
injured as a result of the blaze. A large number of residents that live on
the street came to see what the commotion was, many of them even believed
someone was still living there.
It took fire crews nearly an hour to
extinguish the flames, crews continued wetting hot spots for roughly 30
minutes after to ensure the fire was out. The exact cause of the fire is
still under investigation. Trenton Police officers and Dade County Sheriff
Officers assisted the Fire Department with Traffic Control. Also Medics with
Lifeguard EMS were on scene for safety.
