DADE COUNTY, Georgia - Friday, December 26,2008 - 5:30 pm - The Georgia
State Patrol, Dade County Sheriff's officers, North Dade County firefighters
and Trenton Firefighters were dispatched with medics from Hutcheson EMS to a
traffic crash that happened on Interstate 24 near the Highway 299 exit.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene while two adults were
transported to Erlanger and a child to T. C. Thompson Children's Hospital.
Witnesses say one vehicle went out of control and crossed the median and was
struck by an east bound pickup truck. A van, also east bound, then struck
the truck.
Firefighters did have to extricate one of the victims from the wreckage.
Traffic was backed up for miles as rescuers and emergency personnel worked
the scene. Georgia State Patrol Officers are investigating the scene and
have not yet released a cause.
