Georgia Fire Truck Crashes Taking The Life Of A Dedicated Firefighter

WALKER COUNTY, Georgia - Wednesday, December 31,2008 - 10:30 pm - Walker County Engine 6 responding to a call crashed at the intersection of Mission Ridge Road and McFarland Road. The fire engine was traveling north on Mission Ridge, turning onto McFarland when the crash occurred. The truck rolled over on it's top in the ditch line on McFarland Road causing the driver to be trapped under the wreckage.

Several emergency units with Walker Emergency Services were immediately dispatched to the scene. Within seconds, numerous crews arrived on the scene. Firefighters and rescue personnel worked quickly to attempt freeing the driver, unfortunately he had already succumb to his injuries. Two other firefighters that were also on the engine were quickly loaded into ambulances and rushed to a nearby hospital.

The driver of the engine, Corporal Jarrett Little was pronounced dead at the scene. Corporal Little was a dedicated, experienced firefighter that had driven fire engines to numerous calls. Corporal Little was not only a paid firefighter for Walker County but also a volunteer firefighter for neighboring Fort Oglethorpe Fire Department. Having been a firefighter since he was old enough to join, Corporal Little had years of experience with driving apparatus.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol. Corporal Jarrett Little's passing will be a great loss to the North Georgia Firefighting community.
