DADE COUNTY, Georgia - Monday, December 27,2009 - 6:30 pm - North Dade
County and Trenton Firefighters Responded with medics from Life Guard EMS to
a reported accident with injuries on Interstate 24 Eastbound at the 169 Mile
Marker. The first to arrive on scene was a Dade County Sheriffs Officer, he
quickly reported a second crash just a few yards west of the first one.
Emergency workers arrived on scene moments later and started checking for
injuries.Fortunately the injuries
in the first crash were minor in nature. Rescuers quickly packaged the
patients and loaded them into an ambulance. Meanwhile, firefighters started
assessing the situation with the second crash. It appeared that when traffic
slowed down for the first crash, a semi tractor trailer hit the brakes and
the rear tandems of his trailer came out from under the trailer, leaving the
53 foot trailer box laying on the ground.
To make matters worse, the first crash
occurred in the fast lane and the second crash occurred in the slow and
shoulder lanes. Traffic was brought to a stand still for some time. Luckily
the first crash was cleared rather fast and the fast lane was reopened.
Police officers did however keep traffic rolling slowly for safety while
crews with Butch Bryson's Wrecker Service were called in to clear the semi
wreckage.
Butch Bryson's crews went to work quickly
and started moving the load off the wrecked trailer and onto a new one. The
road was completely cleared and traffic restored just after 11:00 pm. The
exact cause of both crashes are being investigated by the Georgia State
Patrol.
