EAST RIDGE, TENN – Thursday, February 14, 2008 – Just minutes after 11:00
AM, the East Ridge Fire
Department was alerted to a residential house fire at 1541 Burns Avenue.
Squad 1 and Engine 2
responded immediately. Engine 2 reported seeing heavy smoke in the area
while they were en route.
On arrival, firefighters were met with flames shooting out windows and a
working fire in a room on the A/D
corner of the single story wooden structure. Firefighters pulled an inch and
three quarter line and made
an immediate interior attack. They were able to achieve a quick knock down
on the fire and contained it
mostly to that corner of the house.
Firefighters spent quite a bit of time ensuring that the fire was completely
extinguished and doing
overhaul. Additional manpower from East Ridge responded to aid those already
on the scene. Fort
Oglethorpe, Georgia Engine 10 responded for stand by in case they were
needed to respond to
emergency calls while East Ridge Firefighters were busy.
The East Ridge Police Department and Memorial EMS assisted. The homeowners
were not present when
the fire broke out but returned while firefighters were extinguishing the
fire. There were no injuries as a
result of the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this
time. No value has been place don
the loss but it is thought to be extensive even though firefighters managed
to save the house. |
