CHATTANOOGA, Tenn - Sunday, February 28,2010 - 1:30 pm - Emergency crews and
rescue units with the City of Chattanooga Fire Department and Hamilton
County EMS were called to a reported semi tractor trailer crash in the 17600
block of Interstate 24 Westbound, between Browns Ferry Road and the Highway
27 split. It did not take long for
emergency crews to confirm a semi crash due to the extreme backup on the
interstate. When rescuers arrived on the scene they reported a semi tractor
trailer on it's side blocking the westbound lanes of I-24. Luckily the
38-year old driver and his passenger from Elberton, GA only had minor
injuries. Both of them were transported by Hamilton County EMS to Erlanger
Medical Center.
The truck driver was said to have been
coming Eastbound around the Moccasin Bend stretch of Interstate 24 when the
semi tractor trailer broke through the guard rail, traveled across the
median and landed on it's side across the westbound lanes. Luckily no other
vehicle were said to have been hit during the crash.
It took several hours to upright the
wreckage and clean up the debris from the roadway. The interstate was
finally reopen around 6:15 pm. City of Chattanooga Traffic Officers are
investigating the crash further and charges against the driver are possibly
pending.
