CHATTANOOGA, Tenn - Thursday, November 1,2007 - 3:00 am - City Of
Chattanooga Firefighters were alerted of a possible residential structure
fire at 3107 8th Avenue, between 31st and 32nd Street in the East Lake
Community. 9-1-1 callers reported flames through the roof of the house.
Chattanooga Engine 9 was first to arrive on the scene, confirming a well
involved working structure fire. Engine 9's crew dropped a supply hose from
a nearby fire hydrant on the way down the street.
Ladder 5 arrived on the scene within a second
of Engine 9, together the two crews quickly pulled two inch and 3/4 hose
line and started to primary attacks on the fire. Additional crews arrived on
the scene within moments and joined in the firefighting effort. The fire was
well seated and had quite a head start on the firefighters. the fast moving
fire quickly burned the entire roof of the structure.
Firefighters were faced with a difficult
task in battling the blaze due to the advanced stage of the fire, however
amazingly enough crews brought the fire under control in about 30 minutes.
The home was all but destroyed. There were no injuries reported and nobody
was home at the time of the fire. Neighbors say the house was undergoing
some remodeling. A cause has not yet been determined.
