CHATTANOOGA, Tenn - Saturday, May 15,2010 - 2:00 am - City Of Chattanooga
Firefighters with Engine 20 were called to a crash on Interstate 24
Westbound near the 171 Mile Marker. Engine 20 was quickly advised all the
westbound lanes were blocked by the crash. City of Chattanooga Police
arrived on the scene with Engine 20 and reported a loaded semi tractor
trailer over turned on it’s side blocking the interstate. Fire crews quickly
assessed the scene and found no leaks or fuel spills.
City of Chattanooga Police requested a recovery class wrecker service to the
scene to clear the wreckage. In short order Doug Yates Wrecker service
arrived on the scene and quickly pulled the wreckage out of the roadway and
restored the flow of traffic on the westbound side. Unfortunately the
recovery was not over there, crews worked for hours to unload the trailer
that was filled with riding lawn mowers. The trailer had been torn open
during the crash, the top and part of the side was destroyed. Crews were
able to load the lawn mowers on several rollbacks and then upright the
wreckage.
The entire wreckage was finally cleared just after 8:00am. Police and TDOT
help trucks quickly worked to restore the flow to all lanes of travel. It is
not clear as to why the semi crashed, but City of Chattanooga Police are
investigating.
