CHATTANOOGA, Tenn - Wednesday, May 12,2010 - 5:00 pm - City Of Chattanooga
Firefighters with Engine 5 and Medics with Hamilton County EMS Medic unit 13
were called to an accident with injuries on Bailey Avenue at Willow Street.
Firefighters with Engine 5 arrived on the scene in short order and quickly
confirmed a two vehicle crash. Two people were reported injured, both
drivers of the vehicles. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
Rescuers immediately started assessing the injuries and then started
preparing them for transport.
An unidentified witness at the scene said the crash occurred when the car,
which was traveling west on Bailey Avenue, ran a red light and struck a
blazer, which was traveling north on Willow, in the side. The blazer spun
around and landed on the north side of the intersection headed south. The
car continued several feet forward and struck a utility pole and large
control power box for the lights. Another witness stated that the blazer
flew in the air and almost rolled over while it was spinning.
Emergency workers quickly loaded the man from the blazer into Medic 13’s
ambulance. Meanwhile and additional ambulance, Hamilton County Medic 6,
arrived on the scene as well as an additional engine company, City Of
Chattanooga Ladder 5. Crews immediately started loading the woman from the
car into Medic 6. Both patients were transported to two separate nearby
Emergency Rooms. The accident is under investigation by the City Of
Chattanooga Police Department.
