BRADLEY COUNTY, TENN - Tuesday, May 11,2010 - 8:00 pm - Bradley County EMS
PIO, Stan Clark, says the 21-year-old male driver of a Toyota truck was
critically injured when the truck slammed into the rear tandem axles of a
tanker-trailer. The crash happened on Dalton Pike in front of Waterville
Elementary School in Bradley County.
Bradley County EMS paramedics quickly
responded to the scene with two ambulances and a supervisor. Paramedics
determined that the young man's injuries were life threatening and he needed
transport to a level 1 trauma center for advanced care. A Life Force medical
helicopter was summoned and directed to set down in a field in front of the
school. Dalton Pike had to be shut down for a period of time while the
victim was put on board and then airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center's
emergency room. Officers say he is a resident of Georgia and but his name
was not immediately released pending family notifications.
Bradley County Fire and Rescue Service was required to extricate the victim
from the wreckage and was in charge of the helicopter landing zone. The
driver of the 18-wheeler was transported to Sky Ridge Medical Center for
evaluation. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
